The career fair and guest speakers on Tuesday was kind of nerve wrecking. It was good to hear how newer teachers are incorporating technology in their teaching and left me with some ideas on how I could begin or go about technology in my future classroom.
Using twitter for formative assessment is a great idea and something I wouldn't have thought of.
My sister is a teacher within the Frontier School Division and they are not up to date with technology, a lot of schools within the division do not have laptops let alone iPads. Very few classrooms have SMART boards, these are just my thoughts I had while the teachers were speaking. It makes me :(
My next teaching placement is in Souix Valley teaching K-6 P.E., I've never been in this school before, so I'm excited to see how technology is incorporated throughout.
I found it interesting to see how far behind many school divisions were in their ability to access technology. It was neat to see how the presenters used technology without having technology. This is how they engaged their students! Great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI agree with using twitter too! It would make assessment quick and easy in a 140 characters less. One thing that I found interesting was that when John Finch spoke to us he mentioned that some schools have SMART board in every room but teachers aren't using them to their full potential because they are not getting the training so they end up just being very expensive white boards.
ReplyDeleteI keep pushing her to speak up to admin and ask for training so she could incorporate it in her classroom and possibly show other teachers what they could do with the SMART board in the classroom. She is not one who is into that however, but so was Devon Caldwell...now look at her! If you had taken a PD with her, she would tell you she was not techy at all and now she masters the SMART board in so many ways :) and also has a position with Microsoft which is pretty cool.
